Signature Analysis

Your signature is unique. It is also your public face. It represents you on important documents, on messages to friends: it is your mark of promise, your bond. And it says more about you than any other set of letters.

The signature is a multi-purpose sign. It commits you to, say, repay a debt, that what you state on your tax form is correct, that you support the views expressed in a letter – it is used to help enforce the law. Yet it is also used in personal communication to friends, wishing someone a happy birthday, and much more.

So it is not surprising that people use variations of their signatures depending on what it is being used for. A signature on a legal document might be signed with your full name, including initial letters of middle names. A letter to a friend might simply be signed with a pet name.

Your signature is central to your identity, yet you sign your name thousands of times in your life, so often that writing it becomes a completely automatic, mechanical act. The signature is a stylized form of writing: it shows how you want the world to perceive you.

Handwriting Analysis

Handwriting is as an instantaneous photograph of your mind. Your nervous system acts as a wire from brain to hand. A thought in your brain is transmitted by electrical impulses through the nervous system and fibers of your body, arm, hand and fingers. The fingers are only vehicles that put it in writing.

The thoughts and feelings in the human mind have an immediate impact in the formation of handwriting. You will be able to spot differences in the handwriting by comparing your own writing samples written in various moods when you are angry, happy, tired or feeling sick. When you compare these different samples you will be able to see noticeable differences in pen stroke usage, even though your handwriting style remains basically the same.

Just like finger prints, no two hand writings are identical...

Child Psychology

Handwriting leads to cognitive development, particularly in training the brain to learn functional specialization, that is capacity for optimal efficiency. In the case of learning hand writing, the brain develops functional specialization that integrates both sensation, movement control, and thinking. Brain imaging studies reveal that multiple areas of brain become co-activated during we write, as opposed to typing or just visual practice.
Brain development related to handwriting can start in infancy; formal handwriting instruction should start in kindergarten itself. Making letters produces more brain activation in reading areas for 4 and 5 year olds than simply looking at letters or keyboarding.
